This is exactly the kind of music I’m loving right now. Maybe it’s the cold front that came back to Chicago and is making for a bizarre mood ready to be influenced by the sad and sexy throbbing bass lines.
Admittedly, I don’t know much about Nick Waterhouse – but if this concert footage is any indication, he sure knows how to put on a great show. I am digging the swinging drums and saxophone with some R&B-like crooning. Here he sings the title track from his upcoming debut LP, Time’s AllGone, whichdrops May 1st.
His tour isn’t hitting Chicago any time soon but if you live outside of the Windy City, perhaps you can catch him here:
4/13 Pioneertown, CA – Pappy & Harriets
4/28 Arcata, CA-The Depot – Humboldt College
4/29 – Santa Barbara, CA – Soho
5/4 Costa Mesa, CA-Newport Nautical Museum
5/10 Los Angeles, CA-Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock
5/17 Washington, DC-6th and I Synagogue – Downstairs
I just got back from Subway and won’t be able to shake this smell for at least the next five hours. To pass the time while I air out, how about joining me in listening to some of these extra special jams. We’ll start out with Wild Flag covering Fugazi!!
Welcome to the Chicago Venue Menu podcast! As a music-lover, podcast maker and concert-goer, this is something I’ve wanted to do for a very long time. In the future, I hope to release these every Friday and will be making these available via iTunes in the next few days. Eventually, I’ll be bringing on special guests to join me and share their picks for the upcoming week in Chicago concerts. If you’re a publicist or band that wants to get in touch, feel free to reach out to me at iamchubbyjones (at) gmail (dot) com.
My heart is still recovering from not being at South by Southwest. In all seriousness I think I sounded like an air-horn that replaced the annoying honking sound with the even more annoying Snookie, “Waaaah”.
Instead of crying about it (any more), I distracted myself by finding music to share with you.
Let’s start out with this tasty Holy Ghost remix of Midnight Magic’s track “Drop Me A Line”
Dummy Mag’s Mix from Brenmar is a delight and holy shit – it even has Dru Hill‘s “How Deep Is Your Love” which was my dance floor grinding jam back in college.
Rye Rye will be releasing a proper album soon and a set of remixes for the single “Boom Boom” has made its way to the net. So far, this is my favorite of the batch:
