Some Days Are A Rilo Kiley Song. So Are Some Years.

I can’t believe how long it’s been since Rilo Kiley’s album The Execution of All Things sunk its teeth into my headphones and didn’t leave for a few long months when life was in limbo.

The track “A Better Son/Daughter” seems to be a life anthem – even if not by choice. I haven’t had a song describe some of the internal struggles with loneliness or bouts of severe grump that I go through more perfectly than I think this one does.

“And sometimes when you’re on, you’re really fucking on. And your friends they sing along and they love you. But the lows are so extreme, that the good seems fucking cheap and it teases you for weeks in its absence  But you’ll fight and you’ll make it through. You’ll fake it if you have to and you’ll show up for work with a smile.”

April 2nd, the band who broke my heart a bit when they decided to call it quits is putting out an album of unreleased tracks entitled, RKives. Time to rekindle my love of their old tunes.

NYC is full of sunshine today and this Ryan Hemsworth remix of Cat Power’s “Manhattan” has got me itching to take my pup out for a long walk to the Seaport.

Blood Red Shoes: For When You Need A Good Punch To The Ears

Dear Blood Red Shoes:

I didn’t know I needed to be rocked out today, but I sure did. Thanks for the sweet tunes (particularly the free download).
